Big Country Spotlight: Patton Kizzire

Patton Kizzire is an American pro golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour. Johnson is one of the tallest golfers on the tour at 6’ 5 and resides in Sea Island, GA.

Kizzire grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL and played collegiate golf at Auburn University. He placed third at the 2003 U.S. Junior Open. In 2006-2007, Patton earned all-Southeastern Conference first-team honors and won the 2007 SEC Championship. He turned pro in 2008.

It was a breakout season for him while playing on the 2015 Web.com Tour, where Kizzire was the Tour's money list leader for most of the season. Patton ended with two runner-up finishes at the El Bosque Mexico Championship and the Rex Hospital Open, then he recorded his first victory at the Utah Championship. This victory secured him with his PGA Tour card for the 2015-2016 season. He was one of a few players that played with the most consistency on the Web.com Tour, only missing two cuts in the first 15 events that he played on the tour. This helped him to secure the Web.com Tour Player of the Year. Kizzire had 10 finishes that placed him in the top-25 and had 9 top-10s in 2015. He did make an appearance on the PGA Tour at the Barbasol Championship, but unfortunately, he missed the cut.

In October 2016, during his rookie season, he finished runner-up to Brendan Steele on the PGA Tour season opener, Safeway Open. Kizzire entered the final round with his first PGA Tour 54-hole lead by only one stroke. However, he finished with a two-under-par round to miss out by a single stroke. Patton finished the year placed 99th on the FedEx Cup standings. In 2016, his rookie season on the PGA Tour, Kizzire finished with five top-10 finishes and made 20 out of 27 cuts. Placing at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open as a runner-up was a season-best for him. Patton ended the year ranked at number 82 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Kizzire won his first PGA Tour title at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in November 2017. The players had to play 36 holes on Sunday due to bad weather, but he managed to hold off the challenge of Rickie Fowler to claim a one-stroke victory.

In January 2018, he claimed his second title of the 2018 PGA Tour season at the Sony Open in Hawaii played at Waialae Country Club. Prevailing in a sudden-death playoff, Kizzire defeated James Hahn with a birdie on the sixth extra hole to become the first multiple winner of the 2018 season. This moved him to the top of the early FedEx Cup standings.
